What is the purpose of applying?

About Applying

Applying is the first step toward enroling in a flight training course. This important step allows us to meet our regulatory obligations and to gather enough information about you to:

  • validate that you are an authentic applicant who understands what they are applying for;
  • check that your academic and English language levels are appropriate for the demands of the course and suitable to safely undertake pilot training;
  • validate that your residential status is appropriate, or that you will be able to secure a suitable residential status prior to commencement (such as a student visa);
  • ensure that you have the financial capacity to undertake the course and cover other expenses such as living, medical, insurance and transport expenses;
  • check your access to the Australian Student Visa programme;
  • provide you with feedback on any issues that may inhibit your ability to enter a career as a pilot;
  • create the required enrolment, academic and aeronautical records if your application is successful and you commence a course.
What are the steps?

Steps to Apply (International Students)

STEP 1 INFORM YOURSELF

Carefully read all course information provided to ensure that you are fully informed of the entry criteria, commitment, expectations and cost of this qualification and the outcomes you can expect. You should further research employment prospects in the location you are hoping to work as a professional pilot after graduation as well as cost of living in Australia and the student visa process. Ask our team for advise if you have questions or concerns.

STEP 2 PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS

You will need to prepare documentary evidence that you meet the entry criteria including identification, academic capacity and English language ability. You may also be asked to provide evidence of your financial capacity and motivations for studying in Australia. Documents should be certified (see below), or originals must be presented for inspection at induction. Documents that are not in English language must be accompanied by a translation.

STEP 3 APPLY

Lodge your application via the online Application Form on our website located at https://aviation.flightone.edu.au/study/international/apply. All fields must be carefully and accurately completed and you should ideally upload all your supporting documents via the form. If you have additional documents that you wish to provide, these can be done by email at a later stage.

STEP 4 INITIAL RESPONSE

We will respond to your application as quickly as we can – usually within one week to let you know whether your initial application for entry into the course has been successful or not. If approved, you will be invited to move on to the next steps.

STEP 5 APTITUDE TEST

We will invite you to take our industry-specific Pilot Aptitude Test. This test is conducted by Symbiotics Ltd, the aviation industry’s most highly regarded assessment and selection platform. Most students don’t have an issue with the aptitude test and it is used primarily to inform you, and our flight training team, of your strengths and weaknesses so we can better tailor your training. There is a fee associated with the aptitude test so we will provide payment instructions along with the invitation. Following the aptitude test, you will be contacted by our flight training team for a follow up discussion and review of your results.

STEP 6 FORMAL OFFER

Upon successful completion of the aptitude test, you will receive from us a formal Letter of Offer that details the proposed programme dates, cost, duration, etc. for your consideration.

STEP 7 ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER

If you wish to proceed with your enrolment, you will be required to sign and return the student agreement that forms part of the offer and pay any initial tuition fee deposit and material fees.

STEP 8 CONFIRMATION OF ENROLMENT

When we have received from you, your signed Student Agreement and initial payment, we will issue a formal Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and further onboarding instructions. The CoE will be required to start your visa process via the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Information about applying for a Student Visa is available here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/check-twice-submit-once/student-visa. We are available to provide assistance to the extent possible.

STEP 9 AVIATION MEDICAL & SECURITY CHECKS

We will provide you with information and support to apply for an Aviation Reference Number from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), your Aviation Medical, and your Aviation Security Identification Card. Please note that health issues and / or criminal records can become a barrier to commencement so please highlight these for discussion before you apply if you have any concerns.

STEP 10 COMMENCE YOUR COURSE

If you are outside Australia, you will need to make travel arrangements to arrive at least a week prior to commencement. Prior to, or upon commencement, we will provide you with your pilot training kit and uniform as well as information and support to ensure you are ready for training. The course begins with a traditional on-campus orientation and safety induction, then we’ll have you up and flying within days!

What happens after I apply?

Application Lodged

After you complete and submit the application form you will receive an email confirming the successful submission. Our admissions team will then review your application and documentation. If we need anything further from you or have any questions, we will be in touch.

Within approximately 7 business days of receiving all the information we require, we will be able to advise you if you are eligible to move onto the next step in the enrolment process.

If you are not eligible, we will advise you of the reason. An unsuccessful application does not necessarily mean that you can’t reapply – it depends on the reason. For example, if you were too young, you may re-apply when you meet the age criteria.

We are always available to assist and answer any questions you have prior to, during, and after the application stage.

What documents should I prepare before applying?
