If your application is successful, you will be provided with a Letter of Offer that contains a Fee Schedule. Your Fee Schedule details the payments required for your deposit, material (non-tuition) fees and instalment due dates for regular payments throughout the course.

A sample fee schedule (including deposit, tuition and non-tuition fees) is available on the course page.

International Students

In accordance with student visa regulations, International Students must demonstrate additional financial capacity to cover costs associated with travel, living, insurance (OSHC), family members and other relevant expenses.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (NZ CITIZENS)

Eligibility

To be eligible for a HELP loan you must:

  • be a New Zealand Special Category visa (SCV) holder or formerly be a Special Category Visa holder and on a pathway to Australian citizenship;
  • meet ALL of the long-term residency requirements; and
  • be living in Australia while you study.

Long-term residency requirements

Your higher education provider will ask you to supply documentation to assess whether you meet all of the long-term residency requirements. The long-term residency requirements for New Zealand SCV holders (and former SCV holders) are that you:

  • first began to be usually resident in Australia at least 10 years ago,
  • were a child under the age of 18 with no spouse or de facto partner when you first began to be usually resident in Australia, and
  • have been in Australia for at least:
  • a total of eight out of the past 10 years (from when you apply for the loan), and
  • a total of 18 months out of the last two years (from when you apply for the loan).

If you do not meet ALL of the above requirements, you cannot get a HELP loan.

New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holders transitioning through a permanent resident visa to Australian citizenship

From 29 June 2023, New Zealand citizens who formerly held a Special Category Visa and have transitioned to a permanent resident visa on the pathway to citizenship will have continued access to the Higher Education Loan Program.

This amendment will allow these students to return to their course of study, without the burden of upfront payment of tuition fees while they wait for their Australian citizenship to be granted.

Residency requirements during study

As a New Zealand citizen and/or NZ SCV holder, you must be resident in Australia for the duration of your unit(s) to meet the HELP residency requirements. However, any period of residence outside Australia will be disregarded if:

  • it cannot be reasonably regarded as indicating an intention to reside outside Australia for the duration of the unit, or
  • it is required for the purpose of completing a requirement of that unit.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (HUMANITARIAN VISA HOLDERS)

Permanent humanitarian visa holders and eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holders can access a HELP loan if they meet the residency requirements.

An eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder means a person who is:

  • not a permanent humanitarian visa holder; and
  • was previously a permanent humanitarian visa holder; and
  • is the holder of a visa of the subclasses 155 and 157 (Resident Return).

Residency requirements during study

As a Permanent humanitarian visa holder (or eligible former), you must be resident in Australia for the duration of your units(s) to meet the CSP and HELP residency requirements. However, any period of residence outside Australia will be disregarded if:

  • it cannot be reasonably regarded as indicating an intention to reside outside Australia for the duration of the unit, or

  • it is required for the purpose of completing a requirement of that unit.

What is the purpose of applying?

About Applying

Applying is the first step toward enroling in a flight training course. This important step allows us to meet our regulatory obligations and to gather enough information about you to:

  • validate that you are an authentic applicant who understands what they are applying for;
  • check that your academic and English language levels are appropriate for the demands of the course and suitable to safely undertake pilot training;
  • validate that your residential status is appropriate, or that you will be able to secure a suitable residential status prior to commencement (such as a student visa);
  • ensure that you have the financial capacity through self funding, or through a loan such as a VET Student Loan, to undertake the course;
  • check your access to the VET Student Loan scheme (if you are an eligible domestic student);
  • provide you with feedback on any issues that may inhibit your ability to enter a career as a pilot;
  • create the required enrolment, academic and aeronautical records if your application is successful and you commence a course.
What are the steps?

Steps to Apply (Domestic Students)

Admission to flight training is a 2-step process that requires initial approval of eligibility to enrol in a VET Sector diploma, followed by additional screening for suitability to undertake flight training.

STEP 1 INFORM YOURSELF

Carefully read all course information provided to ensure that you are fully informed of the entry criteria, commitment, expectations and cost of this qualification and the outcomes you can expect. You should further research employment prospects in the location you are hoping to work as a professional pilot after graduation. Ask our team for advise if you have questions or concerns and, if you have never flown before, consider requesting a Trial Instructional Flight.

STEP 2 PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS

You will need to prepare documentary evidence that you meet the entry criteria including identification, academic capacity and English language ability. Documents should be certified (see below), or originals must be presented for inspection at induction.

STEP 3 APPLY

Lodge your application via the online Application Form on our website located at www.aviation.flightone.edu.au/apply (or the short URL: f1a.aero/apply). All fields must be carefully and accurately completed and you should ideally upload all your supporting documents via the form. If you have additional documents that you wish to provide, these can be done by email at a later stage.

STEP 4 INITIAL RESPONSE

We will respond to your application within 2 to 5 working days to let you know whether your initial application for entry into the course has been successful or not. If approved, you will be invited to move on to the next steps.

STEP 5 APTITUDE TEST

We will invite you to take our industry-specific Pilot Aptitude Test. This test is conducted by Symbiotics Ltd, the aviation industry’s most highly regarded assessment and selection platform. Most students don’t have an issue with the aptitude test and it is used primarily to inform you, and our flight training team, of your strengths and weaknesses so we can better tailor your training. There is a fee associated with the aptitude test so we will provide payment instructions along with the invitation. Following the aptitude test, you will be contacted by our flight training team for a follow up discussion and review of your results.

STEP 6 FORMAL OFFER

Upon successful completion of the aptitude test, you will receive from us a formal Letter of Offer that details the proposed programme dates, cost, duration, etc. for your consideration.

STEP 7 ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER

If you wish to proceed with your enrolment, you will be required to sign and return the student agreement that forms part of the offer and pay any initial material fees. If you are self funding your studies, you will also need to pay your first tuition fee instalment. If you are electing to use VET Student Loans, you will receive further instructions to establish your VSL account.

STEP 8 CONFIRMATION OF ENROLMENT

When we have received from you, your signed Student Agreement and initial payment, we will issue a formal Confirmation of Enrolment and further onboarding instructions.

STEP 9 AVIATION MEDICAL & SECURITY CHECKS

We will provide you with information and support to apply for an Aviation Reference Number from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), your Aviation Medical, and your Aviation Security Identification Card. Please note that health issues and / or criminal records can become a barrier to commencement so please highlight these for discussion before you apply if you have any concerns.

STEP 10 COMMENCE YOUR COURSE
